Deployment plans

BSH, through its support of Argo Germany is committed to deploy 50 floats per year to maintain the Argo array. One focus of the German deployments is in the North Atlantic region since these waters influence the North Sea directly. The other focus is the Southern Ocean because of its large impact on climate. Remaining floats are deployed in areas of the Atlantic where the global array needs reseeding.

The map below shows the locations of floats which are  to be deployed in 2009. The Southern Ocean is scheduled for reseeding 2010.  Annual deployment plans are determined with input from a scientific group of experts.  Argo Germany relies on the support of the scientific community to deploy floats during research cruises.
